Samoa's Prime Minister, Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa had an audience with United Kingdom's King Charles III on Monday this week at the Buckingham Palace.

A story as well as photos of the meeting on Monday (Tuesday Samoa Time) between the Samoan Prime Minister and the head of the Commonwealth at Buckingham Palace in London were published by one of the UK's largest media companies Mail Online late Monday.

"King Charles cracked a smile at Buckingham Palace today during an audience with the Prime Minister of Samoa as the Royal Family faces more bombshells from Omid Scobie," read the Mail Online article. "His Majesty appeared in a good mood as he greeted Afioga Fiame Naomi Mata'afa on Monday afternoon, smiling warmly and sharing a joke with the politician.

"It was a reunion of sorts for the pair, who had a similarly good-natured meeting in March this year during a gathering of Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers in London."

It is not known if Prime Minister Fiame met with King Charles to brief him on Samoa's preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October 2024, which His Majesty will officially open on his way to Australia next year.

Matthew Lodge, the Mail Online reporter who reported on the Samoan Prime Minister's meeting with King Charles, told the Samoa Observer that he was not sure of the reason behind the meeting.

The Samoa government's Press Secretariat has not released a statement on the travels of the Prime Minister following her departure last Friday and whether she stopped over in London on her way to Dubai for the COP28 Climate Change Conference which starts on Thursday 30 November (Friday Samoa Time) and runs until 12 December 2023.
