Six more gold medals for Samoa

Team Samoa managed to get six more gold medals in 24 hours, increasing their gold medal count from 12 to 18 according to the Pacific Games medal tally updates.
The latest Pacific Games medal tally updated on 24 November in the morning showed that New Caledonia dominates the table with 32 gold, 23 silver, 25 bronze, with a total of 80 medals.
Australia is second on the table and also improved its' gold count by one and have 24 gold, 13 silver, six bronze medals with 42 medals in total.
Remaining at third place with an increased number of medals is Samoa with 18 gold, 5 silver, three bronze, and 26 medals in total.
Tahiti also remained fourth with eight gold, 18 silver, 25 bronze, a total of 51 medals.
Samoa's golden boy and champion lifter, Don Opeloge gave praise to the Heavenly father for he managed to strike three gold medals in weightlifting and acknowledged all who have contributed to the success.
"Firstly, all praise to the Heavenly Father for the strength he continues to provide us with, I feel proud and excited for the results of today," he said.
"We've done a lot of training in the past months in preparation for this moment, a lot unfortunately could not achieve their goals but it feels overwhelming to have boosted the number of gold medals for our country and I feel happy to have done so much for Samoa and my family."
Opeloge also gave special thanks and acknowledgement to his coach, Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork and his weightlifting team for the efforts they have managed to put in so far and making Samoa proud.
Team Samoa Chef de Mission Leiataualesa Jerry Brunt in an update livestreamed on Thursday acknowledged the country and the Government for their ongoing support and gave updates on the remaining activities for Samoa in the Pacific Games 2023.
"Thank you Samoa for your prayers and ongoing support which keeps us going and for the safety of our children representing us in this Pacific Games," he said.
"We feel strong and better with your ongoing support and prayers and with the spirit of God keeping our athletes optimistic.
"Special thanks to the leaders of our nation, from the Head of State, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, Parliament, prayer warriors, and our families for the support."
Meanwhile, Leiataualesa and the Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.) of the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympics Committee (S.A.S.N.O.C.) Tuala Mathew Vaea in an update said over 100 athletes will be arriving in Solomon Islands on Saturday for the remaining sports while the other athletes who have completed their sports will return on Sunday.
Another group is expected to arrive on 4 December.
Athletes representing 24 teams from the south and west Pacific region are competing in the 2023 Pacific Games, which takes place in Honiara, Solomon Islands, from 19 November to 2 December.
Some 346 medal events are being held across 27 sports disciplines, with competitions in archery and boxing serving as Olympic qualifiers, with Paris 2024 quotas on the line.
