A Pacific science academy mooted
A science institution for the Pacific was one of the ideas mooted at the two-day meeting held at the Taumeasina Island Resort with over 60 international science scholars.
They have gathered in Samoa to exchange views on whether establishing an academy would be a great initiative for the Pacific Islands and the younger generations. It aims to open discussion among researchers and participants from the Pacific countries to preserve their capabilities through the support of a proper science institution.
The program will undergo seven different sessions on various scientific outlooks that enable participants to evaluate and comprehend concepts and for their aspirations to be heard.
This event is facilitated by the International Science Council Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific with the assistance of the National University of Samoa, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, and the Richard Lounsbery Foundation.
It was discussed that the Pacific Island states lacked a formal academy of scholars and well-established connections to the worldwide scientific community, which limited the engagement and participation of local scholars in global scientific endeavours.
The work of the ISC in the region is guided by its regional focal point for Asia and the Pacific which ensures regional needs and priorities are adequately represented, that regional voices are actively engaged and that the region benefits from the result of their work.
