The delegates attending the Atoa o Samoa conference travelled to Savai'i on Thursday visiting a number of sites and developments on the big island.

Led by the leaders of the Samoa and American Samoa governments, the two delegations were transported to Savai'i on a chartered ferry from Upolu at around 10 am.

Upon arrival, they were divided into three different sector groups and visited the different sites, Samoa government projects and district hospitals. The sectors were the agriculture and social sectors.

However bad weather delayed and disrupted the visits program for the delegates to some of the health facilities and district hospitals.

American Samoa Governor, Lemanu Mauga and Prime Minister, Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa were both assigned to the social sector team and visited the National University of Samoa (N.U.S.) office at Salelologa as well as the Siutu Siapo demonstration at Palauli. They could not visit the Tuasivi and Safotu district hospitals as planned due to the delay in the program.

Their final stop was at the village of Sasina within the Gagaifomauga No. 3 constituency where they were welcomed by the elders of the village of the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, La'auli Leuatea Schmidt. The village made a traditional presentation for the two leaders of the delegations.

A final meeting to go over the outcomes of their discussions was cancelled, instead, they had dinner at the Stevensons Hotel in Manase.

The visit to Savai'i provided an opportunity for the American Samoa delegation to see first-hand the developments on the big island.

The Governor expressed his sincere gratitude to the Samoa Government for taking them over to Savai'i, saying some of the delegates from the U.S. territory had never been to Savai'i and they finally got to see the big island and the different government projects and developments.

The visit by the two delegations will continue on Friday morning before they make their way back to Upolu in the afternoon.
