A 66-year-old man from Poutasi Falealili died last night as a result of serious injuries he sustained from the bus crash at Malifa on Monday morning.

The Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed the first casualty from the Poutasi wooden bus owned by Laumoso'oi Transport.

The elderly man is one of four passengers who were in critical condition overnight as a result of the incident.

Several passengers on the Poutasi bus that also service the Sapunaoa route said the bus brakes were faulty.

One of the passengers who spoke to the Samoa Observer at the Moto'otua National Hospital said the bus lost control in Papauta going downhill.

He claimed the bus diff broke and this led to the bus accelerating until it came to a halt when it hit a Hyundai Tucson at Malifa.
