Avele College Old Pupils Association (ACOPA) is looking to raise money for their school’s 100th birthday and complete some of the school's projects as part of its celebration.

The Chairman of the Anniversary Committee, Afamasaga Faleata Iosefa said there will be a radiothon at the Malaefatu Park in town to fundraise money for the completion of a few projects and needs of the school, such as a new fale Samoa.

The President of ACOPA Wellington, Tunumafono Ken Ah Kuoi said this is the first time they have ever hosted a radiothon and all have come together to make sure their plans pull through.

“This is the oldest college in Samoa and it is 100 years old and we ask of you to assist us in our radiothon. Our associations from America, Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa and Cook Islands will all work together on Saturday,” he said

“How much we receive will depend on everyone’s generosity and if we are able to at least reach $100,000 that is a lot, however, whatever we are able to fundraise we will be grateful.”

He also added that there are projects that the money they fundraise will go into such as a new fale Samoa for Avele College to commemorate 100 years since it was established in 1924.

Afamasaga said the Avele Old Pupils Associations from all over the region will fly into Samoa and the celebrations are planned for 12 June next year.

The principal of the school, Tuala Otilia Sooalo said preparations for the event will not hinder the students' learning as the committee will be responsible for everything save for a few items  to be performed on the day of the celebrations.

The call goes out to the old pupils of the school to contribute to a great cause and the invitation also extends to those who are also willing to donate to the school's fundraising.
