BSP Samoa has thrown its support behind the 2023 Zone B Secondary Schools Year 12 Impromptu Speech Competition by donating cash and merchandise giveaways.

The bank has stepped forward with sponsorship of SAT$2,000 cash and $500 worth of merchandise for the event which was held last Thursday at St. Mary's College. It saw the participation of nine secondary schools with Year 12 students tasked to select a question and then craft and deliver a compelling speech on their chosen topic in 5 minutes.

The annual contest provides students with an opportunity to develop their oratory skills and thought-provoking abilities. The competition not only recognised the dedication and hard work of the budding orators but also encouraged them to continue pursuing their passion for public speaking and critical thinking.

This year's competition was nothing short of outstanding, with young talents emerging as the future voices of change. The competition was a testament to the dedication and creativity of the region's youth. It was a close but fair contest with St Marys College walking away as the 2023 champions.

BSP Samoa congratulated all the individual students who represented their schools in the 2023 Impromptu English Competition. The winner of the competition was Tammy Maualaivao of St. Mary's College, who captivated the audience with her thought-provoking speech titled, "My biggest concern for the future: Artificial Intelligence".

The runner-up was Charlotte Mah Yuen of Robert Louis Stevenson College, whose speech on the topic, "There is no such thing as Gender Equality in reality," resonated deeply with the audience. Leupule Puleiata of Faleata College clinched the third spot with her challenge of popular junk food through her speech titled, "Junk food popularity is misleading."

BSP Samoa said in a statement that it remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering the next generation of young Samoans through such initiatives in developing young minds.
