Pastor Jeremy wins Pacific award
New Zealand-based Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) board member, Pastor Jeremy Faumuina has won the Pacific Peoples Award in Social Work in Aotearoa, New Zealand this week.
The award ceremony culminates the Social Work Conference Rangatiratanga, Empowering whānau and Social Work Leadership in New Zealand.
According to Pastor Jeremy, who is Samoan by birth, the award is to be shared with his community who saw him fit to be nominated for the award.
“I'm so grateful and humbled to win the Pacific Peoples Practice Award in Social Work in Aotearoa, New Zealand as I'm so passionate about our indigenous people and what we bring to the table," he said. "The fact I got to share the moment with amazing legends in the game was a highlight.
"I share this award with my community who nominated me. Thank you. To have my wife Shelley Gibb-Faumuina wit
"And then sharing vā space with our son Cooper the following day, presenting our story through our Sāmoan narrative and the work SVSG does in Samoa, was a beautiful way to finish the day.”
Pastor Jeremy and his wife Shelley Faumuina together with their children are long-time supporters of SVSG, especially the Campus of Hope. Over the years, Pastor Jeremy and his family have hosted a program in Christchurch, where young girls from the Campus of Hope would spend three months to experience life outside of Samoa, as part of their rehabilitation program.
“The SVSG board congratulates Pastor Jeremy and Shelly Faumuina for such an achievement in the social work practice space in New Zealand," said Siliniu Lina Chang, SVSG President. "We are proud of you and your compassion towards the most vulnerable. We will celebrate in style when you next visit."
