U.S.P. hosts Open Day in Savai'i
The sub-centre of The University of the South Pacific (U.S.P.) Samoa Campus in Savai'i is set to host hundreds of senior college students at its annual Open Day on Friday.
The program for the event on Friday will run from 8.30 am to 12.00 pm and will revolve around the theme “Shaping Pacific Futures” with the U.S.P. Samoa Campus Director, Tootoooleaava Dr Fanaafi Aiono - Le Tagaloa giving the keynote address. The formal program will start with an invocation delivered by Reverend Setefano Logovii, the principal of Tuasivi College.
Given the key function of University Open Days as moments when senior college students make important decisions on pathways to future careers and dreams, U.S.P. Samoa staff will provide information on their course offerings for all students.
Among the planned activities for the day will be informative presentations by the various heads of sections of the U.S.P. Samoa Campus focusing on their respective sections’ services and programs on offer for the benefit of the students and the campus.
As each section of the U.S.P. Samoa Campus is responsible for marketing one or more of the six schools of the regional university, the section heads will also be marketing promotional materials and paraphernalia as well as programmes of study and career pathways offered by their chosen schools during their presentations. These presentations will, on the whole, bear testament to U.S.P.’s ranking as one of the top 10 per cent of the world’s best universities.
Following the heads of section presentations there will be a brief student tour around the sub-centre which contains a library, a computer lab, REACT (remote educational and communication technologies) facilities; a Learning and Teaching Classroom and study tables for independent and or group study. a question and answer session and prize giveaways. Throughout the day, cultural performances and refreshments will be provided.
Approximately 80 per cent of Savai'i colleges—both state-owned and private—have confirmed participation at the Open Day which means about 400-plus students and teachers in attendance. The hope is for each of these students to use information gained from the U.S.P. Open Day to inform their own plans for the future.
