Magiagi church marks Father's Day
Every year mothers, fathers, children, and youth march in the morning as part of a parade to mark their official days in Methodist churches across Samoa.
And it was no different for this year's Father's Day celebration at the Magiagi Methodist Church Sunday morning with fathers leading the march to the church building while singing and smiling to be greeted by the church congregation.
Members of the church's youth enacted a story from the bible about Jacob and his prodigal son Isaac – while trying to deliver a strong message to the fathers as well as their children – that "no wealth can or should take away a father's love for his children".
The lead role of the enactment was played by 25-year-old Vaa Otele, whose father had passed away, and broke down in tears while playing his role as Isaac from the bible as he remembered his father recently passed away.
"If only I could bring back time, I would but this Father's Day reminded me of how my father would give the world for us his children and I just wish he was here this Father's Day," he said.
Reverend Liulagi Laai highlighted in his sermon that fathers are the heads of their families.
"There are so many distractions in this life which we live with and only you fathers can avoid those distractions if you put your heart to your family and not come to church today and drink tomorrow," he said. "May all the fathers of Magiagi and Samoa have a prosperous Father's Day today and may your families thrive in life and you all make your dreams come true."
The fathers of the church were also given opportunities to speak on stage and give words of encouragement when marking this special day.
One of the fathers who delivered their remarks is Tiumalu Ropati, who is close to 80 years of age thanked and praised God for giving him long longevity in life.
