Olo who is also the Minister for M.W.T.I. revealed that they have put forth a request to Cabinet to upgrade the V.I.P. lounge as the country hosts the high-level commonwealth meeting in October next year. 

"The Authority has also made it clear in our proposal that they can fund the construction work and upgrade needed to be done," Olo said. 

Olo said they are looking at constructing a two-storey building and making sure that the people who will be using the V.I.P. lounge, especially leaders of different countries will not have to walk out in the sun upon arrival. 

He further added that they are waiting for Cabinet's approval on their request. 

In a previous interview with the Minister, he confirmed that the Authority is also looking to upgrade the Maota Airport in Savai'i with anticipation that it will assist Samoa's International Airport to deal with the influx of incoming aircrafts for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2024. 

"Amongst other infrastructure upgrades, if not already in the process, we aim to improve road infrastructure (patch up damaged roads, safety awareness programs, road signs), ensure water drains are cleared and reinforced, public car parking modifications, meeting venues modifications and refurbishment if needed," said Olo. 

A total of $20 million tala has been allocated in the 2023/2024 Budget for the nation's preparations for C.H.O.G.M. next year. 

The Cabinet had already activated the National C.H.O.G.M. Taskforce Committee to spearhead preparations for the meeting. 

The Committee is the decision-making authority that is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of the C.H.O.G.M. in October next year in Apia. 

Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata'afa is the Chairperson of the Taskforce and is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
