B.S.P. Samoa paid over $40M in taxes

B.S.P. Samoa has paid over SAT$46 million in taxes to the Government since opening in 2015 and has grown to become Samoa's leading financial institution.
Details of the bank's achievements since its establishment eight years ago were released by the B.S.P. Samoa Country Manager, Tunumafono Jennifer Fruean as part of her speech to mark the bank's 8th-anniversary celebrations in Apia last Thursday.
Guests at the celebration at the TATTE Convention Centre included the Minister of Finance, Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molio’o as well as the Port Moresby-based B.S.P. General Manager (Offshore Branches), Taituuga Maryann Lameko-Vaai, according to a press release issued by the B.S.P. Samoa management.
Tunumafono said the bank has made progress from being second in terms of market share to becoming the leader, in terms of lending and deposit services with growth also experienced in customer base as well as staffing numbers and assets.
“Eight years on after entering the market, B.S.P.’s customer base has expanded from 40,000 to 66,000 customers. The local workforce has grown from 75 to over 110 staff," said the Country Manager. "Additionally, B.S.P. assets in Samoa have significantly grown to an impressive $712 million from $286 million.
“The bank has made remarkable progress in market share, moving from the second position to becoming the leading bank in Samoa for both lending and deposit services. We are proud to be serving Samoa through our growing network comprising over 400 merchants and agents, along with 32 ATMs.
“These accomplishments are significant milestones that B.S.P., our stakeholders and our customers have achieved collectively. We thank our customers for their patronage over these eight (8) years and we look forward to our continued partnership in the future."
A moment of silence was also observed in honour of the former B.S.P. Financial Group Chairman, the late Tulaniu o Atua Sir Kostas Constantinou. Taituuga paid tribute to the late Sir Kostas, a visionary leader who was committed to the prosperity of local communities and was instrumental in bringing B.S.P. to Samoa and the Pacific region.
She also thanked customers for their support and congratulated the people of Samoa for their resilience, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The anniversary celebration last Thursday attracted over 200 customers including Government, private sector and community leaders. Minister Mulipola congratulated B.S.P., its shareholders, board of directors, management, staff and customers on reaching eight years of service to Samoa and her people.
A special staff function was also held last Wednesday at the Samoa Tourism Authority Samoan Fale to mark not only the 8th anniversary but also to thank the staff and acknowledge B.S.P. Samoa employees who celebrated 10 and 25 years of service to the bank. Recognition awards were also presented to acknowledge outstanding contributions during the first half of the year.
