The Aga Reef Resort has confirmed an incident where a child drowned at their swimming pool on Tuesday evening and an investigation is underway.

A statement from the Resort Manager, Leonyra Namulo says the resort deeply regrets informing the public of the tragic incident “involving the accidental drowning of a child in our swimming pool”.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Resort Manager says the safety and well-being of their guests are of paramount importance and are devastated by this unfortunate accident.

“Aga Reef Resort has strict safety protocols in place, including trained staff, pool rules on display, and regular maintenance and inspections.

“We are fully cooperating with local authorities and conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.”

Ms. Namulo says upon discovering the incident with a guest performing CPR their trained staff immediately initiated emergency response procedures to evacuate and transport the patient to the nearest hospital in Lalomanu.

But despite their efforts and prompt medical attention the child could not be revived.

“Our entire team is deeply saddened by this tragic event, and we are focused on providing comfort and support to those involved,” says the Resort Manager.

“We will be providing support to the family affected by this tragedy, and our staff is working closely with local authorities to offer any assistance necessary.

“Counseling services will be sought to help any of our guests and staff who may require emotional support during this difficult time.”

The Aga Reef Resort also extended their gratitude to the local emergency services at Lalomanu District Hospital and  Ministry of Police for their response and ongoing assistance.

Attempts are being made to obtain comments from Police on this matter.
