The United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) and its relevant partners are meeting as part of a three-day family life education (FLE) workshop to boost program delivery.

Facilitators from Family Planning Australia have flown in to run the workshop, which gets underway on Monday and ends on Wednesday for the UNFPA. They hope would improve program delivery so as to achieve the best results from their community work.

One of the workshop's participants, Samoa Family Health Association (SFHA) Program Manager Leiloa Etevise Ropati, says that this training has informed her and her team of better ways to facilitate community outreaches in a more effective manner.

“This is very helpful because we are able to learn approaches on how to deliver and implement Family Life Education (FLE) for out-of-school programs,” Ms. Ropati said. “Before we were faced with the problem of trying to understand the needs of the community but now with this training it helps to build our capacity to be able to know more on how to deliver this package.

“This makes it easier for facilitators to deliver this information out to the community in a way they are able to understand better and easily digest FLE.”

Health promotion officer, Nina Betts of Family Planning Australia will deliver a three-day workshop with staff from both the UNFPA and IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation).

“What we're doing is implementation and planning for the out-of-school Family Life Education Program and basically mapping out the next few years. These program activities are funded under the UNFPA transformative agenda,” she said. “What we're looking at is how we can provide effective Family Life Education for young people in Samoa.

"So it's education for facilitators who work directly with young people.”

Ms. Betts said that they are looking to hold regular meetings throughout the year so that country partners are able to deliver and achieve the best results for them and Samoa.
