New football program for girls
The latest Oceania Football Confederation's program for girls has been launched by Football Federation Samoa which will target the development of women's football.
F.F.S. media and communications officer Fausagafou Angela Pauga said this was a way to help young girls take their minds off of social issues and is a form of stress relief for them.
“This program is designed to prioritise young girls aged 13 to 18 years old so that they can be interested in this sport,” she said. “It is also a safe place for them to use newly acquired skills in football to remove their mind from any stress and life problems.
"It is currently being introduced in 11 countries including Samoa.”
As they complete the course the girls will gain confidence and develop football and leadership skills while improving their knowledge of safety, health and wellbeing.
From this program also, they will develop the girls' potential coaches as role models who can share their experience and ultimately gain more interest from young girls to join the sport.
O.F.C. designed this program for women to develop their understanding of existing experiences, coaching skills and strengths to support participants personally, as well as benefit women’s football within the F.F.S. and the O.F.C.
“Once our three-day workshop is completed we can run this program into the communities to deliver the program," said Pauga.
This is one of the projects by FIFA to create more opportunities for women in football. They hope to meet the needs of these young players through a four-corner model teaching method by addressing technical, physical, social, and Psychological football skills.
