The flash floods that struck families and residents in Savai'i have also disconnected power and water supply to some parts of the big island since Thursday afternoon.

The Samoa Water Authority (S.W.A.) and Electric Power Corporation (E.P.C.) employees have been working around the clock to try and restore electricity and water supply across the island following the flash floods.

Pictures of the devastated areas, which were greatly affected by the flash floods, have been uploaded to social media by families and friends of those residing in the affected areas.

The residents are calling on the Government to assist the affected families and deliver emergency aid due to key infrastructure such as roads and bridges being non-accessible.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment's Meteorology Division on Thursday evening issued a nationwide heavy rain warning and flood advisory.

"An active convergence zone remains within the vicinity of the group," the latest weather report reads. "The system has eventuated heavy rainfall with numerous flooding over the interior and coastal parts of Savai’i Island.

"Observations indicated a maximum of more than 300 mm recorded from Vai’a’ata since midnight last night [Wednesday night]. However, such conditions remain persistent over the island chain for now although Upolu may not face an imminent threat as the big island.

"Therefore, a heavy rain warning was activated in the afternoon issue with a flood advisory for all major rivers of Samoa. Potential Impacts: heavy downpours with poor visibility, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides and waterways with possible landslides to prone areas. Expect gusty winds at times."

All inter-island ferry services between the main islands of Upolu and Savai'i were also delayed on Thursday due to the bad weather conditions.
