Twenty per cent of the total number of teachers employed by the largest Christian denomination in Samoa resigned from their jobs in the year 2022.

This was highlighted in a report provided by the Director of Education for the Congregational Christian Church Samoa (C.C.C.S.), Rosita Lafi Esera

There are currently five different colleges (Papauta Girls College, Maluafou College, Leulumoegafou, Nu'uausala, and Tuasivi) one vocational centre (in Savai'i) and the Fine Arts School in Leulumoega at the church's museum, under the C.C.C.S.' administration.

According to the data presented by the Director to the Education Committee within the church, a total of 167 teachers were employed by the church in 2022.

Of this number, a total of 34 teachers resigned by the end of the academic year in November, 2022.

The report also provided statistics for the first months of the current academic year and shows that there are 175 teachers now working in the different schools under the church.

However, of that number 11 teachers have also resigned this year.

The Education Committee also received a report from the Director of Education of an analysis undertaken by the Board of Education into the number of teachers resigning from the mission schools under the C.C.C.S. from 2016-2021 and the reasons behind their departure.

Of that number, 34 per cent left for better opportunities within the government and private businesses.

Of the 17 per cent who resigned were church ministers and their wives who were called to serve in the different parishes within the church.

12.8 per cent migrated with their families overseas, 9.6 per cent were terminated for breaching the policies and conditions of their contracts, 7.4 per cent resigned due to health issues, another 7.4. per cent successfully passed the entrance exam into Malua Theological College, 3.2 per cent reached the end of their contracts with the church, 2.1 per cent have passed away, 1.1 per cent have been offered scholarship opportunities to further their studies overseas and 5.3 per cent of the total number were listed as (other reasons).
