Samoa Aquatic Center reopens
The Samoa Aquatic Center has reopened after meeting and satisfying health and safety requirements enforced by the Ministry of Health (M.O.H.).
It is believed that the swimming pool was closed in March after an M.O.H. inspection found that health and sfaety code were in breach and the pool needed to be closed so remedial work could be done on it.
Samoa Observer visited the Aquatic Center several times in March and confirmed that it was closed with a notice on the front gate informing the public of its temporary closure.
However, Samoa Observer visited the Center again on Mothers Day holiday on Monday and confirmed that it had reopened. A security guard who did not want to be identified, said "it had been open for a few weeks now".
Attempts by this newspaper to seek a comment from M.O.H and management of the Aquatic Center remained unsuccessful before this edition went to press.
Meanwhile, families enjoying the Mother's Day public holiday were once again at the pool having fun and enjoying family time together.
Several youth groups were also seen spending their Mother's Day holiday at the center.
The Samoa Aquatic Center together with the Apia Park Sports Complex was rehabilitated by the Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company Ltd. in China in 2018, in preparation for the Pacific Games in 2019.
Work on the multimillion tala project dealt specifically with repairs and upgrading of the current facilities.
Chinese Embassy Charge de Affaire at the time, Li Hao Xing, said China was happy to help fund the work.
“The project will help Samoa to develop its sports industry, promote its economic and social development, improve people’s livelihood and gradually enhance its national influence in the south Pacific region," he said.
