A book on German immigrants who lived in Samoa in the 19th century will be unveiled in Apia this week following its publication in February this year.

The book "Germans in Samoa: 1860–1914" was written by Dr. Kasia Cook and commissioned by the late Hans Joachim "Joe" Keil in March 2018 on behalf of the Samoa Historical and Cultural Trust.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, after Mr. Keil's passing in August 2018, work continued until completion in 2020. After a three-year hiatus due to the worldwide pandemic, the book will be presented this week to audiences in Samoa and New Zealand.

With over 5,000 social media followers, the historical work of Samoa Historical and Cultural Trust benefits German-Samoan descendants and researchers all over the world.

Those interested in purchasing a copy of the book are invited to attend the launch in Apia, where they will be able to meet and have their copies signed by the author, Dr. Cook.  The launch will be held at the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum coming Thursday at 5.30 pm.

Those who are interested in purchasing a book are welcome to attend. Those who are interested but are unable to attend the launch on Thursday can come to the Amanaki Hotel between 9-10 am this coming Friday to meet the author and purchase signed copies of the publication.

A second launch will be held in Auckland at the University of Auckland's Fale Pasifika this coming Saturday at 10.30 am. Seating is limited at both events so attendees are encouraged to RSVP via the Germans in Samoa Facebook page and to arrive early.

"We are grateful for the support and assistance of the many individuals and families who have contributed to this project. We look forward to celebrating the book and Joe Keil's vision with them."
