The usual hustle and bustle to end the working week was replaced with a peaceful pause across Samoa, as a nation founded on God paused to commemorate Good Friday.

Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary, preceding Easter Sunday.

While other churches held services early Friday morning some of the churches such as Vaitele Uta Methodist Church re-enacted Jesus's crucifixion or the Stations of the Cross.

However, instead of the normal re-enactment of Christ's crucifixion, the youth group of Vaitele-uta Methodist church spiced it up and turned it into normal funeral where Jesus was laid in a coffin while his mother, Mary talks about the life of Jesus in her eulogy.

A woman who acted as Mary told the story about Jesus in her eulogy from his birth up to when he was crucified to save his family and the world.

One of the youngest participants of the play, 12-year-old Faatonu Kamuta talked about the significance of Good Friday for his life as a young child in church and in his family.

"I love participating in the commemoration of the Christ's crucifixion every year, it's a good reminder of what happened to Jesus Christ and why he went through those sufferings which was to save the world," he told Samoa Observer.

"I was always taught in Sunday schools and by my parents about the meaning of Good Friday and these plays are good to familiarise myself with the stories in the bible about Jesus because we also get asked by the Sunday school teachers about this story and that story and at least we can memorise them from these plays."

Faatonu is involved in Vaitele-uta Methodist church's Sunday school but is also one of the young members of the youth group.

Every Good Friday, Methodist churches re-enact the crucifixion of Jesus leading up to Easter on Sunday.

Vaitele-uta Methodist church youth group concluded their program with a dancing performance with lyrics showing their gratitude to Jesus for saving the world.

Meanwhile, all churches from different denominations also commemorated Good Friday and are most likely also re-enacting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Samoa will also commemorate the Easter this coming Sunday.
