Float parade heralds 34 years of Miss Pacific pageant
It is only a matter of hours before we will have a new Miss Pacific will be announced as the pageant has returned after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The finale will be held tonight at the Tuana’imato Sports Complex Gym One where the outgoing Miss Pacific Islands, Seumanu Fonoifafo McFarland-Seumanu will pass on the crown to the new Miss Pacific Islands, signaling the end of her historic reign of three years.
This year’s celebration is special as the pageant is recognised as one of the main festivities of the host nation's year-long celebration for its 60th Independence Anniversary which ends on the 31 May.
This year marks 34 years since the regional beauty pageant was established by the Government of Samoa. The last time Samoa hosted the regional pageant was in 2016.
And the celebration of the pageant’s 34th anniversary goes along with the theme for this year’s, "Strength in unity".
This echoed through the colorful and beautiful decors showcased through the five different floats for the five beautiful contestants vying for the crown of Miss Pacific Islands.
In honour of this special event, Beach Road, Apia was filled with an array of colors from a float parade which heralded the final day of the week-long pageant activities.
Hundreds of people from all around Samoa, as well as the entourages, families and supporters of the contestants from the Pacific assembled to celebrate and support them during their last public appearances before the final tonight.
A small service was held in front of the government building where Reverend Nu'uausala Siaosi, conducted a service to bless the celebration.
The event was also well attended by Cabinet Ministers and distinguish judges for the pageant.
The five contestants vying for the crown are from Nauru, American Samoa, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Papua New Guinea.
