A tourist, Eustache Laurent from Tahiti believes Samoa's natural beauty is one of its kind but says people's littering habit could ruin the natural aesthetic of the country.

Recently he stayed on the south coast of Upolu.

"I have been going around Upolu, and I can't believe how beautiful it is," he said.

"I went to Fiji, the Cook Islands, Vanuatu, and of course I am from Tahiti. Samoa is by far the prettiest. People love their gardens, and the environment is so lush with greenery.

"The beaches are quite pretty. And this one on the south coast is the prettiest to me."

Laurent said apart from the natural beauty of Samoa he has come across the litter on roadside which gives the nation an ugly look. He said this is something the people of Samoa can work on.

"I just can't believe that people throw rubbish outside their windows, or dump them on the side of the roads," he said.

"It is sad because it seems very strange that they love to garden but when out and about, people just throw the plastic and food scraps on the side of the road.

"Is there anyone that can fix that for the island?"

Laurent said that he planned to go to Savaii as he heard that Savaii had to offer more natural beauty because development had not touched much of nature on the big island.

"I hear great things about Savaii, not just online but from people I met here. I hope the rubbish is not rampant there too," he said.

"It is a pity that for such a beautiful place with lovely people, however the rubbish is bad. Tahiti is not clean. But it is definitely cleaner than Samoa."

Another tourist from the South Coast also took a photo of a sign on the road that had been damaged by people.

Avia Avia, a Samoan pastor from New Zealand said he was entertained by Samoan people's creativity when he took the photo of the sign.

A local resident of the south coast, Lotomua Peniana, said she does not think it is funny that the signs are being tampered with.

"No, I don't think it is funny at all. I think it just shows that the drunks and the youth are reckless  and rude," she said.
