Silver Whisper calls into Apia
Cruise ship Silver Whisper, which is part of Silver Sea Ultra-Luxury cruise company headquartered in Monaco, visited Samoa’s shores a day before New Year’s making Apia even busier than usual.
Despite its small size compared to the other cruise ships that have visited Samoa in recent months, the Silver Whisper features four restaurants and selection of suite options.
It is designed to pamper her passengers allowing for a very comfortable cruise to all her destinations. It was built in 2001 and can host about 392 guests and 302 crew mates.
It sailed here from the Cook Islands and is set to arrive in Savusavu in Fiji in the next few days.
Frank Parkinson, 86, visited Samoa on the cruise ship and was delighted to see the greenery of Upolu island and meet friendly people.
“Although slightly hot, everything here is really nice. This is my first time here and I quite like the place,” he said.
Mr. Parkinson, who is part of the ship's crew, has traveled around the Pacific before but has never visited Samoa until joining the Silver Whisper cruise.
Despite his age he is quite active and enjoyed walking around the Apia Harbor. Seeing that rugby is the national sport of Samoa, he was delighted to find something in common with Samoans.
“I used to play rugby back in my days and being here after the Rugby League World Cup is a treat,” he said.
He was also elated taking time to enjoy the scenery before spending another two days on the ship to their next destination.
