When you think about the New Year you can't help but associate it with alcohol and the fun you supposedly would have when consuming it, but there is so much more you can do without alcohol during this New Year’s Holiday celebration.

Here are Samoa Observer's top 10 things you can do with your family and friends this New Year's Holiday without Alcohol.

Go for a swim or a picnic

One of the best things to do on island, if not a must, is to go for a swim. Here in Samoa you so much to choose from based on your personal preference. There are fresh water pools and sandy beaches that you and your family can enjoy a day out in the sun to cool off and relax.

Play tourist for a day

If you haven’t visited some of Samoa’s very own ancient landmarks, the New Year’s holidays is your chance to do so. Playing tourist for a day is way more fun than a shot of tequila. Take the family on an adventure and visit local hotspots like the Falealupo Canopy walkway, Alofaaga Blowholes, swim with turtles, explore caves and so much more.

There is also a more quiet and serene getaway for those who prefer a more peaceful and relaxing environment. Why not book a week end getaway with the family at a beach fale or if you fancy air conditioning, a hotel room. Enjoying the room service is just one of the perks as well as kayaking and snorkeling.

Do the hike with family

A nice hike and walk in nature will have you sweat away your stress. Paying a visit to Uncle Robbie up Mount Vaea is almost a must for every Samoan. Or if you prefer a more challenging climb, Mt Silisili, the highest peak in Samoa stands 1,858 meters above sea level. You can opt to camp overnight under the stars in a field of wild berries (they’re edible).

There is always Fiafia Park

The Fiafia Park is Samoa’s very own and first theme park with many affordable rides to choose from. Children will love the night rides, the lights and cotton candy.

Have fun at the mini golf

Golfing is another way to T-off your holiday, chasing after every cup in your golf cart. There is even a mini-golf course up at Moamoa which opened earlier this year and is for all ages. It opens late and it is definitely a great activity for the family.

Friendship Park is fun with family

Perhaps you prefer a simpler and easier option than a trip around the Island. A simple Picnic to the Matagialalua Friendship Park will suffice. Some packed lunch for the kids to enjoy the playground and open spaces will tire them for an early night to bed.

A movie marathon

Many prefer to spend the day out of the house but there are just as many who would love to stay home. Why not set up a movie marathon of your favorite selection. The cinemas may be out of business but Netflix and chill is the trend nowadays. Stay in bed and ‘binge’ watch some of your favorite TV series and TV shows. Absolutely nothing can go wrong with a Disney movie marathon and a Disney karaoke night.

Catch up on the reading

Doing some reading is probably the most efficient and relaxing way to spend your holiday. A few good books by your favorite author will keep your brain thinking over a nice cup of Koko Samoa.

Sleeping in

The last option would probably the best thing everyone needs after a long and hectic year. Surely the stress put on by Christmas must be huge. Sleeping in, giving your body the much-needed rest and recuperation is just as important as eating and drinking. Allowing yourself to recharge your batteries will help you take on the start of the next year.

All in all, there is so much out there to do without involving alcohol and these are just some things you could do for a much safer time with your family.
