Hopeannie Vaitofiga Tupou, 21, Malie.

"From my opinion, the police must have more roadblocks during this time of celebration for the safety of our people. Just an advice for those who will be drinking alcohol, please don't drive. Please let the person who didn't drink drive for the safety of you both and for the safety of other road users. Let's work together for our safety while we're celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Samoa."

Queentesa Raki, 31, Vaitele-Fou.

"First of all, it is a must for police to work for the safety of our people. People are busy and will be on holidays during Christmas. People will definitely be drinking, but with the police out and about, we can decrease the chances of people having accidents. We see more and more people drinking alcohol and some of them are not scared to drive. That is why we need the police on the roads. For those who will be drinking alcohol please stay home and be happy with the family, maybe just this act will save lives."

Tila Mealoi, 31, Lalomanu.

"Roadblocks are a good idea because it lowers the chances of people getting into road accidents. I feel that it is the responsibility of the police to ensure that they protect the lives of everyday Samoans. I do believe that there will be a lot of drinking this weekend and the next weekend. Also people who are drinking and plan to drive a vehicle, please don't. Do the right thing, have a designated driver or travel in a taxi. Also drink at home and don't travel at all. Wish you all the best and Merry Christmas to you all."

Salome Leasuasu, 20, Tulaele.

"Police should have more road patrols especially this time of the year. People will be out merry making and someone will be drinking and driving. We have seen this in the past during the festive season on how people end up in accidents and sometimes lives are lost. I think with the roadblocks the police are doing a good job by nabbing those who are breaking the law and keeping people alive. Always remember your safety while you're on the road because alcohol will only make you happy for a short time."

Dan Tanielu, 20, Lalomanu.

"This is right, we all know this is the time of celebrations. A lot of people have been buying drinks for their parties and there will be people getting drunk and some even driving while drunk. We have seen it from past years when people lose their lives because they were drunk and behind the wheels. People should drink at home or have a sober driver take their place. I hope the police sets up roadblocks and I hope that members of the public refrain from drinking and driving. Let us celebrate Christmas and New Year and be happy, let us not do anything that will end the happiness and make this a sad memory."

Tala Falaniko, 44, Vaiusu.

"It's a nice reminder to all of us who have plans for Christmas. If you're on vacation, if you know you're drunk, please don't drive. Let the person who is sober drive the vehicle for you, think about the lives that a drunk driver is risking if he is carrying is family with him. While an accident claims one life, the life of many others are affected. Also alcohol related violence is also on the increase. Think about your loved ones. Wishing you to have a peaceful Christmas Samoa."
