Philiijarcarie is dux of Falefitu Primary
It was a joyous occasion for the Falefitu Primary School as Year 8 students closed a chapter in their academic year with student Philliajarcarie Tia Pulega coming out on top as the school's dux.
The 13-year-old is also the head girl of the Falefitu Primary School and was able to lead by example by achieving high merits in all her exam results.
The prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday became an emotional moment for her as she was named the top student and went up to get her prizes.
"I am so happy and thankful for my parents and families support, especially for my friends," Ms. Pulega said.
She attributed her success to her late great grandmother, Sinatala Laulelei who had passed away two weeks ago before her graduation from school.
"My great grandmother is my role model and has shown me how to work hard and to give God all the glory in all things that I do," she added.
Having sat for the Samoa College and Avele College entrance exams, her primary school later advised her and a few of her classmates that they've passed and qualified for entry into both colleges, making her graduation on Tuesday a double celebration for their parents as well as teachers.
"I passed both entrance exams but I am going to go with Samoa College as my first choice," Ms. Pulega said.
Her mother Keren Pulega said it was the guidance of God and their belief in him which has made all things possible despite their difficulties.
"I know all the parents are happy for their children and I want to firstly give God all the glory for giving my children the wisdom and knowledge to have succeeded in their school studies.
"I am so happy and proud of my daughters."
Ms. Pulega's younger sister also took first place for Year 7 with their mother saying their great grandmother played a big role in their lives ensuring that they studied and worked hard.
