Toa Samoa players dominate All-Star team

Five Toa Samoa players have been named in the Rugby League World Cup 2021 Men's Team of the Tournament ahead of the finale this coming weekend in Manchester. 

The list of the Team of the Tournament sees Samoan players dominating the squad which was voted for by a special panel chaired by Troy Grant and Secretary Neil Wood amongst other panelists. 

The players include, Toa Samoa's skipper Junior Paulo, Toa Samoa's talisman and playmaker Jarome Luai, semi-final hero Stephen Crichton, Brian To'o and Tim Lafai who scored two tries in the game against the host nation last week. 

 The final game of this year's World Cup tournament will see Toa Samoa going head to head with the title holders Australia. 

The Kangaroos have four players in the Team of the Tournament. They are Josh Addo-Carr, Cameron Murray, Liam Martin and Harry Grant. 

England, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Tonga are the other nations to be represented in this all-star team.

The RLWC2021 all-star team include: Joseph Manu (New Zealand), Brian To’o (Samoa), Tim Lafai (Samoa), Stephen Crichton (Samoa), Josh Addo-Carr (Australia), Jarome Luai (Samoa), George Williams (England), Tom Burgess (England), Edwin Ipape (Papua New Guinea), Junior Paulo (Samoa), Cameron Murray (Australia), Liam Martin (Australia), Victor Radley (England), Harry Grant (Australia), Sunia Turuva (Fiji), Keaon Koloamatangi (Tonga), James Fisher-Harris (New Zealand). 

A statement from the RLWC2021's Chief Executive, Jon Dutton published on the RLWC2021 website states that there have been a lot of 'incredible teams' throughout this year's tournament. 

"We have seen some incredible team and individual performances across all three tournaments (women's men's and wheelchair" at this fantastic Rugby League World Cup over the last five weeks," Mr. Dutton said. 

"To be included in the Team of the Tournament is something these athletes will be able to cherish, and to be recognised on the biggest stage of all is a testament to their athleticism, skills and determination."

The RLWC2021 has brought together top rugby league players from 20 nations across the globe to compete for this year's Cup. 

Other members of the panel who voted for the all-star team included Kyle Amor (Irish Rugby League Legend and Broadcaster), Jenna Brooks (Broadcaster), Brenda Dobek (GB Rugby League Legend), Nabil El Khedri (France2025), Lois Forsell (England Rugby League Legend + RLWC2021 Ambassador), Martyn Gill (Wheelchair Coach), Honey Hireme-Smiler (NZ Rugby League Legend + RLWC2021 Ambassador), Mary Konstantopoulos (Journalist), Ian Laybourn (Journalist), Julia Lee (GB Rugby League Roll of Honour inductee and Women’s RL Pioneer), Martin Norris (England Wheelchair Rugby League Legend), Danika Priim (Broadcaster), Jason Robinson (England Rugby League Legend + RLWC2021 Ambassador), Brad Walter (IRL Media Manager), Mike Wood (Journalist), Dave Woods (Journalist and Broadcaster).
