Teen and man caught with 353 marijuana plants
Samoa police successfully carried out a raid last week at Afulilo and arrested two young men who were allegedly found in possession of 353 marijuana plants and guns.
This was confirmed by Deputy Police Commissioner, Papali'i Monalisa Tiai-Keti during a press conference held at the Police's Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Papali'i, they arrested a 16-year-old and a 22-year-old who are friends and first-time offenders. They are expected to appear in court soon answering to charges of possession of narcotics and dangerous weapons.
Papali'i confirmed that police seized a total of 353 marijuana tree, 91 branches of marijuana and 31,406 seeds of marijuana and guns from a plantation in Afulilo.
"We've carried out the normal process of labeling what we have found and gave some to S.R.O.S. (Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa) for testing," Papali'i said.
"We have not confirmed whether the weapons (guns) are licensed. We also have not confirmed the day the matter will be called in court."
In another matter, the Deputy Police Commissioner confirmed that a total of 19 students from the two colleges involved in a brawl over a week ago have been issued with warnings from the ministry.
"Students from the two colleges had a special meeting on Tuesday and made amends which is great. But it also granted us the opportunity to remind these students of the consequences they would face if they are involved in another fight, especially around the time where they will be having final exams," she said.
"A total of 19 students have been given warnings from the ministry but only two students from the St. Joseph's College have been charged over being armed with dangerous weapons to incite violence.
"The videos from the fights in town have been very helpful with the ministry's investigation into the matter and we hope that we will work together as a community to put a stop to inter-school violence in Samoa."
Papali'i also confirmed that they have not received a letter of complaint from a vendor who was charged with assault by police in relation to the inter-school fight at the Savalalo bus shelter.
The vendor, Va'a Brown was taken into police custody after he assaulted and injured two students who were involved in the fight and police alleged that some of the vendors at the Savalalo bus shelter might be implicated in the incident.
However, Mr. Brown denied the allegation last week, and took to social media to vent his frustration and threatened to write a letter of complaint against the force, particularly the Acting Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga and a local television station.
