"Don't be afraid": students to Samoa teams
Students at the National University of Samoa’s Maritime School on Friday did a parade to show their support for Toa Samoa and Manu Samoa 15s and 7s squads.
The national rugby league have qualified for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup quarterfinals in England and will take on Tonga on Sunday (Monday 3.30 am Samoa local time). While the Manu Samoa 15s take on Italy at 2pm on Saturday (2am Samoa local time) in their first match of the Autumn Internationals 2022 and Manu Samoa 7s will participate in the upcoming HSBC Hong Kong Sevens Series.
To show their support for the two national teams, the N.U.S. School of Maritime Training held a parade that started in Mulinu’u and ended at the Salelologa market.
The School of Maritime Training Vice President, 19-year-old Fred Siaosi of Safotulafai, invited members of the public to join them in the parade on Friday.
"I would like to take this opportunity to delivered our message and encouraging for our team Toa Samoa and Manu Samoa for their upcoming games from the School of Maritime Training, we would like to give our encouragement and also our support for our team players playing for Samoa boys and also don't forget our motto is Samoa is founded on God,” the Vice President said.
“Don't play proud, play strong and give your best with your games for our country. Worshipped that you guys came back with winning, not just winning but we believe you will do your best for us brothers.
“All the best brothers or sons of the country and to those who played in the Manu 7s and also the Manu Samoa XV good luck with all your games, we were praying for you all brothers.”
Asked what inspired the students to hold the parade, Mr. Siaosi said they thought about it for some time before getting it organised.
“Let us be an example to those different schools and even faculties in the University of Samoa to work together, support together as team work and to deliver some messages for our team players who are playing for our country.
"Samoa don't be afraid, be ready to fight for this battle, let's go for it, do your best and let God be with you during your games brothers, who is the hero, Samoa is the hero.”
