The role of the Pacific Transnational Crime Network (P.T.C.N.) in addressing illegal and criminal activities across the region has been highlighted by Samoa's Police Commissioner.

Giving the closing remarks at the PTCN Team Leaders Conference in Samoa on Tuesday evening, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo pointed out what he described as Samoa's "unique connection" with the PTCN as the host country since its establishment in 2008.

He added that he has also seen the mutual benefits of hosting the Pacific Transnational Crime Coordination Centre (P.T.C.C.C.) in Samoa.

"As PTCN Chair, I am honoured to be here and proud of the achievements of the P.T.C.N. to date. The P.T.C.N. is a strong and trusted law enforcement information sharing network across the Pacific," said Auapaau.

"Since taking over the role as P.T.C.N. Chair only months ago, I have seen how revered the network is across the Pacific and how crucial it is to disrupt illegal and criminal activities in the region that may have destroy thousands of lives.

"We continue to face challenges, both from a national and regional perspective, but as the new Chair, I look forward to continuing to support and lead the Network into the future and take it from strength to strength."

The conference in Apia also provided the opportunity for the P.T.C.N. to celebrate 20 years of "successful networking" across the region with Auapaau proposing a toast to "20 years of building trust and relationships".

"Congratulations to the P.T.C.N. on 20 years of building trust and relationships across the Pacific with law enforcement partners and strengthening the capability of Network members.

"It is a proud event to acknowledge the great work done during this time."

Samoa's Police Commissioner then expressed his gratitude to everyone who attended the three-day conference at the Taumeasina Island Resort as well as the Australian Federal Police and New Zealand.

"A particular thanks to the PTCCC and the PTCN Secretariat for their incredible efforts in the facilitation of this conference," Auapaau added.
