Auapaau added that drowning is suspected to be the cause of death.

In a separate matter on Saturday, Police also reported two law enforcement officers stationed in Savai'i who were shot and wounded at Salelavalu.

Police reported the officers were responding to reports of the discovery of a marijuana plantation in the village which led to a police raid in the area.

But in their efforts to investigate the matter two of the officers were wounded and three suspects in relation to the shooting are now wanted and remain at large.

The Ministry of Police and Prisons posted the names and photos of the suspects on its official Facebook page on Sunday. They were named as Apisaloma Setu aka Sula Setu (male) of Salelavalu and Satupaitea; Masina Lega Taulelei aka Ti'ata Masina Lega Taulelei (male) of Salelavalu and Salailua; and Manuia Lafaele aka Manuia Tanuvasa or Manu Lafaele (male) of Salelavalu.

"The two police officers were taken to the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital in Tuasivi and were treated and discharged on the same day," the Police Commissioner said.

The police have also appealed to members of the public in Savai'i to assist them with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects immediately as marijuana is still an illicit drug in Samoa.
