After 'Mad Max' opening, Theron wins first MTV Movie Award
Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart opened the MTV Movie Awards "Mad Max" style, riding through Warner Bros. Studios strapped to the front of a tricked-out truck.
The two show hosts jumped off the truck and onto an outdoor stage to start the show, which is being taped Saturday night for broadcast Sunday on MTV, Comedy Central and other Viacom channels.
Charlize Theron, the star of "Mad Max: Fury Road," won the first award of the night: best female performance. She came with the film's director, her son, Jackson, and daughter, August.
"The story of 'Fury Road' is in part a story of the power of women and the power to create our own destinies," Theron said before accepting the award in her daughter's name.
Other stars set to appear during the ceremony include Will Smith, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Kendrick Lamar, Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick. Ariana Grande is set to perform, and the program will include previews of such upcoming summer films as "Suicide Squad" and "Captain America: Civil War."
