Empowering women and girls for a brighter future

Since 1975, Soroptimist International (SI) Samoa has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for women and girls across the nation. As part of a global network that spans 123 countries, SI Samoa is committed to uplifting women and girls through education, healthcare, and community development. With a focus on human rights, equality, and social justice, SI Samoa continues to deliver impactful projects that address the needs of vulnerable populations, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

This month, as Samoa hosts the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), global attention will be on the country’s efforts to strengthen community resilience, promote gender equality, and tackle issues like healthcare access. The timing is significant, as it aligns with the visit of Soroptimist International President Siew Yong to the SI Samoa Club. Her visit represents the voices of women from across the Commonwealth, and she is here to launch SI Samoa’s latest groundbreaking initiative, the Savaii Mobile Clinic project.

The Savaii Mobile Clinic: A Vision of Wellness for All

Imagine an island where every woman and child has access to quality healthcare—where preventable illnesses are eradicated, and everyone can lead a life of wellness. This is the vision behind the Savaii Mobile Clinic project. In many remote areas, access to primary healthcare is limited, and women, who often bear the responsibility for their family’s well-being, face the brunt of this lack of access. The Savaii Mobile Clinic aims to change that.

The mission of this project is to provide mobile primary care services to the remote districts of Savaii on a regular and ongoing basis. By offering medical services directly to the community, the clinic will bridge the gap between health and accessibility, ensuring that women and girls—along with their families—receive the care they need without the burden of traveling long distances. From monitoring non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to arranging specialist referrals, the Savaii Mobile Clinic will become a lifeline for many families on the island.

However, this ambitious project needs your support. SI Samoa is working to raise $140,000 AUD to fund the initial phase of the mobile clinic. By investing in this initiative, we can ensure that healthcare reaches those who need it most and create lasting change in the lives of women and girls.

Soroptimist International Samoa: A Legacy of Impact

The Savaii Mobile Clinic is just the latest in a series of transformative projects SI Samoa has undertaken. For nearly 50 years, SI Samoa has been dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through targeted initiatives that promote health, education, and well-being. Past projects include school scholarships to support girls’ education, water tank projects to provide clean water to communities, prosthetic limbs for amputees, offering independence and dignity to women in need, health education programs aimed at preventing illness and promoting wellness, support for the Children’s Ward at the hospital, assistance to Mapufagalele Home for the Aged, including shopping trips and outings for residents, and the Twins and Triplets Support Program which provides care and essentials for the first five years of life.

These initiatives reflect SI Samoa’s unwavering commitment to community service and empowerment, focusing on long-term solutions that improve quality of life for all.
