Han Matagi Lemalu, a first-year engineering student at the National University of Samoa (NUS), had already proven himself as a formidable athlete. His achievements included a gold medal in the Intermediate Boys 400-meter bar, hurdles at the Samoa Games 2023, two silver medals in the 110-meter bar hurdles and the 400-meter races, and a bronze medal in the 4x100-meter relay.

It was during one of the resort's Saturday night shows by the Maeva Band that Han's exceptional skills caught the attention of Ms. Taber. Intrigued by his performance, she asked about Han's background and got to learn about his potential as an athlete.

 Impressed by his talent and inspired by his dedication, Cathy, along with her husband Daryl and their dear friends Philip and Inga McCracken, decided to support his athletic aspirations.
