Between the Lines

POLITELY

There was a certain degree of politeness when the security detail of the leader asked journalists from the newspaper to leave an event the leader was attending. While the politeness is notable, the actions contradict what the leader said during the launch of the media freedom week.

INDEPENDENCE

According to the national budget announcement, the money towards Independence Day celebration is around $2.5 million and another million is coming from the emergency funds. This is $1.5 million short of the $5 million announced earlier. Then again, this amount does not include the money from the district grants.

GRANTS

While the budget has been announced, what has happened to the $18.5 million that is supposed to come from the education ministry for the school grants? The grants are yet to be given and it is supposed to come from the last budget. How long until the schools get the funds?

DOGS

No one comes out to claim their dog when it bites someone walking on the road but when a dog gets hit by a car, people appear out of nowhere asking drivers to pay up for the medical costs for the dog’s treatment. This happened last week when a driver was stopped by a man claiming to be the owner of the dog, which ran into the middle of the road.

SLEEP

Are your children getting enough sleep? A new study finds teens are spending nearly an hour on their phones after 10 pm on school nights, with about half still using social media and other apps between midnight and 4 am. This has also been noticed with employees in their early 20s.
