Between the Lines

RADIOLOGIST

Medical staff did not know that a foreign radiologist was working at the big hospital until the boss man said it in the media. It could be because the radiologist leaves work after lunch each day.

SPORTS IMPACTED

Seasonal work is also having an impact on sports. Most of the teams for the rugby tournament currently on had to withdraw because their players had left.

SAFETY

Workers at the Catholic cathedral working atop dizzying heights without safety harnesses is a serious concern. This also begs the question about the broader health and safety measures in workplaces.

SHOPLIFTERS

More shoplifting videos are making the round. This time a taxi driver and his customer walk into the shop, stuff their pants with items and walk out. Smile for the camera.

LOCAL ATHLETES

Good to see a sporting body emphasising selecting local athletes. In most cases for minor sports, the spots are usually given to overseas-based players who are not even born in Samoa.

GUN AMNESTY

The national gun amnesty is still on and if you have illegal firearms, surrender them or get registered if you have the appropriate firearm. It will be interesting to know how many have surrendered so far.
