Angel Moroni to be replaced |
|
It’s been three months since Angel Moroni lost his trumpet. Angel Moroni, a statue of a man with a trumpet, is a landmark in Apia. It is visible at the temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, Pesega.
The trumpet fell off on 29 September 2009, the day the tsunami hit. “The trumpet fell off when the earthquake struck,” said Carl Fonoimoan
a, the Counsellor of the Temple President. But there is good news.
In the second week of February this year, a new Angel Moroni will be shipped in to replace the one standing. The new statue will be sent in from United States of America. “We are going to replace the whole statue and it will be sturdier,” said Fonoimoana.
Interestingly enough, when flames engulfed Temple several years ago, Angel Moroni was among the few remnants which remained. The statue was smoke stained and on a forward slant but still there. “That was a significant thing to the members and others,” said Elder Jerry King, a Pacific Islands public affairs missionary. Back
