A Samoan has secured a top position with the Bank of the South Pacific Ltd.

The former Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Commission, Faamausili Dr. Matagialofi Lua’iufi, has become the first Samoan to be appointed to the Board of B.S.P.

The appointment was confirmed by the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of South Pacific Ltd. Sir Kostas G. Constantinou, OBE, in a press statement issued last week.

“Sir Kostas welcomed Dr Lua’iufi’s appointment to the Board of BSP,” the statement said.

“He stated that her appointment and Board experience reflects BSP’s market position as the leading Bank in the South Pacific, and he is confident she will contribute positively to the Board performance especially in her areas of expertise in Governance, Transformation and Human Resources Management.”

Based in Samoa, Fa’amausili holds a Doctorate in Philosophy in Management, a Master of Science (Management Sciences), Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science and graduate Diplomas in Training and Management.

Prior to becoming a Public Sector Management consultant, she served at the Samoa Public Service Commission for 25 years, and held the position of Chief Executive Officer of that Office for close to 12 years.

Since leaving the Samoa Public Service Commission in 2008, she has undertaken numerous consultancies in the fields of Governance, Transformation/Change Management and Human Resources Management in Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Niue, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, Tokelau and Papua New Guinea in the Pacific, and Nigeria in Africa.

Fa’amausili has extensive Board and Policy Committee experience in Samoa and is currently a member of the Council and Executive Committee of the National University of Samoa.

In this field, she was a visiting lecturer and a Residential Scholar of the Pacific Executive programme in Canberra under the auspices of the Australia-New Zealand School of Government (ANZSoG), coaching and mentoring young Pacific Island leaders from the Public Sector.

The P.A.C.E programme contributed in developing young leaders across the Pacific who have risen to become politicians and Permanent Heads of Ministries.
