The contestant of the Miss Samoa Fa’afāfine Pageant 2017 brought the heat in cool sort of way when they strutted their sarongs at Taumeasina Island Resort as part of the build up to tomorrow night’s pageant.

Nine contestants donned sarongs for their photo shoot on Wednesday.

“The programme for today is the contestant’s picnic as well as their photo shoot to decide who will win the Miss Photogenic on the night,” said Keli Tuatagaloa.

“On the night of the pageant they will be wearing Swim Suits and we didn’t want to mix up the swim suit wear which is part of the categories on the night with their picnic today.

“We chose “Sarong” for today because on the night they will be judged on their swim suit wear. For the purpose of today, the judges will select the Miss Photogenic based on their sarong and their beauty.”

Velda Fidow added that this is also to build the contestant’s confidence leading up to the main event.

“We know some of them are very shy and they don’t feel confident showing their bodies,” Velda said. “So we told them this theme so that they can come out today and show off their sarong as well as being confident.”

Later the contestants visited the nightclubs to distribute condoms.

“This is part of our advocacy programme in promoting safe sex, and limit the spread diseases such as HIV and STD’s.”
