People need help to gain access to water and this is something the government should provide.

This is Tolutasitaufono Toleafoa from Fasitoo tai’s belief and she  is pleading for water help.

When speaking to the Village Voice, the 36 year old said her family has askedthe government for help before but it was not possible to get the answer they wanted.

“As you can see, everyone in our village is staying on their own and we are now one of the families without water.”Why?

“Because the government’s water can’t reach us so now we are depending on other people’s water.

“We’ve been staying in the inner lands for four years without water.

“A lot of programmes by the government come and go and we still have nothing.

She added “Not long ago there was a programme dealing with the donation of water tanks to some of the families here, but we didn’t get anything.”

Tolutasitaufono said that her father in-law went to the government for help on this matter but they said that they needed to write a formal request and this must be done through their faipule (Member of Parliament).

“That’s why right now, we’re still stuck in this situation and thankfully we have help from other families when it comes to water.

“But I still feel for my children because my children suffer the most as they are the ones who are always sent to get water.”

Tolutasitaufono has five children who are all in school. Her eldest is in her final year in college.

“Our neighbours’ house is a quite far away from us so I having to fetch water every day is not an easy task.

“But we have to do it because my kids need water for school and the water tanks at school don’t even work.“My kids need to have water when they go to school; so what they do is just fill up their water bottles and take it to school.

“And when we prepare food, we always need water for that as well.

“Long story short; water is needed for everything and we really need help please.”
