Boxing equipment have been donated to the Mental Health Unit by Toa Gas and Auto Saver through Klauz Stunzer.

According to Dr. George Leao Tuitama it is the partnership between Klauz Stunzer and Lupesoliai Joseph Parker that made the visit possible.

“So this is Joseph Parker’s first visit to the Mental Health Facility and we had to show him around and how it is operating."

“The presentation today includes a portable punching bag and some gloves and it was kindly donated by the Stunzer family,” he said.

Dr. Tuitama said the visit of Joseph Parker will assist in raising awareness on mental health issues in the country.

“The general thing we did was just showing him around the unit and the services that are available and we wanted to tackle as many birds with one stone and one of them is to have Joseph Parker raise awareness for mental health. His visit was also a way for him to help build awareness for the mental health so it was a good chance for us to use him as part of our awareness campaign.”

Lupesoliai said the purpose of his visit is to see his family as well as visit Digicel, who is his major sponsor.

“I want to back and help out the Mental Health but I’ll have to sit down with the team and see a way we can help to the best we can."

“Hopefully these boxing bags would help release some stress from patients and for them to work on themselves,” he said.

He and his team’s visit to the Samoa Mental Health Unit is part of their assistance to the development of the Unit.

According to Dr. Tuitama besides giving the patients medication they also provide patients with activities to assist in their rehabilitation.

“We try and give them some activity that will help them get back to normal and one of the activities that we showed you is the cooking and art therapy. We try to expand that to cater for all the other things that are needed mainly the areas in sports.”

Dr. Tuitama acknowledged the support of the Toa Gas and Auto Saver as well as the Stunzer family for their kind support.
