Saturday 22 December 2018 is a day that will forever be etched in the memories of PJ Peleiupu Kelese.

It was when he fulfilled his promise to marry his sweetheart, Malelegamalietoailetalalelei Tahilawaimaii Leaupepe, signaling a new step in their relationship.

They sealed their love for eternity at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Temple at Pesega 

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, PJ explained that they had met two years after he returned home from serving his mission in Port Moresby in 2015.

“Returning home I questioned what my next steps were,” he said.

 “Often I would go to the temple. There was one day in particular that stood out. When I had finished my session, I was waiting for my mum when I saw her (Malelega).”

He said she was busy running errands but found her distress somewhat amusing and so he went over to talk to her. What began as a casual move to get to know her turned out to be his first of many more moves. 

He soon found out that she was a perspective missionary waiting for her call and three months into their courtship and Malelega was called to serve 18 months in Adelaide, Australia. 

“I had served a mission too and I understood it was something she wanted to fulfill. I missed her, but supported her completely,” PJ said

Although the distance was not easy, he promised her that he would wait. And he did. 

“Much to my surprise when I arrived home he was standing there with my family,” Mrs. Kelese said.

Not waiting much longer, PJ made the final move and proposed to her on 3 April 2018 at the Temple, where it had all started.

During their courtship, Mr. Kelese said that it was both their goals to get married at the Temple.

Against all odds he kept his promise, Mrs. Kelese said.

“Our day was everything we could have ever hoped for. It was very special for us,” she added.

Seven months of wedding preparations was all worth it as families and friends from Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, United States and Savaii all came to celebrate the momentous occasion.

“We are extremely grateful for our families and friends who have all been there in making our day special. But most importantly for our Heavenly Father’s mindfulness for us and our journey.”
