A 65-year-old grandmother and her family are without a home after their house at Leauvaa burnt yesterday.

Telesia Ahtau said she was with two of her grandchildren when fire broke out in a bedroom of their property and nothing could be done to put it out as the room was locked.

“Everything was burnt, the houses, the clothes, our house properties and everything else,” she said.

She said the fire started while her daughter and husband were away at work and one of their children was with one of her sons who lives nearby.

“We are lucky enough to have one of my children’s house close by to stay, waiting for the time to go and stay at my sister’s place at Levi because it’s closer for my children’s education,” she added.

Mrs. Ahtau said her children are now her only hope for a new home. The family is now residing in one of her children’s house, while waiting and praying for a miracle to happen.

“For the meantime, I have no one to turn to but my children to quickly get us a new house to stay in,” she added.

The family were questioned by the police and the Fire and Emergency Service, fire trucks were seen leaving the area, when Samoa Observer arrived at the scene.

Investigations are currently underway into the cause of the fire.

“The fire workers did what they had to do when they arrived and we also called the Police and they also did their side of the job.

“The police is now working on their investigation, after their interview with me and my family,” she added.
