Australian Professional golfer, Alex Edge, has fired an opening round of nine under par 63 to hold a three shot lead in the Invest Samoa Open.

Played at the Faleata Golf Course, the three day tournament started yesterday.

Ryan Chisnall, of New Zealand, and Michael Wright, of Queensland, hold second position with defending Champion Peter Wilson a further shot back after opening with a five under par 67.

Starting on the tenth hole, Edge made a fast start to his tournament reeling off four birdies and an eagle in his first six holes.

He maintained that figure around the turn before a further three birdies on the front saw him close with a 63 and in a dominant position.

“I got off to an amazing start, from there I just wanted to keep it going,” Edge said.

In the Invest Samoa Senior Open, three times former Champion Richard Backwell continued his good form on Samoan soil opening with a six under par round of 66. Backwell holds a one stroke lead from Tim Elliott.

Defending Samoa Senior Open Champions Brad Burns fresh of a victory in Fiji will have his work cut out chasing Backwell after an opening round of 71.

The tournament continues today.
