The village of Matautu Lefaga has welcomed new title holders following a ceremony held at the village last weekend.

The ceremony saw several family members conferred the titles of Lemalu, Funaiga, Tagaloa and Auala.

The titleholders were blessed by Reverend Lauama Fogotaga and Reverend Eseloma Fatilua.

“When God has chosen you to be the new leaders of your family, you have to serve them with faith, love, respect and above all that to let God be the center to your leadership,” he said.

The family’s spokesperson, Lemalu Mene, said the ceremony was in response to the fact the family is growing and more chiefs are needed. Some of the new titleholders are from overseas.

Auala Aiga Su’a Fa’atonu, one of the new titleholders, is excited about the honour.

“I’m beyond happy,” he said. “I am honoured to have been chosen by my family. I look forward to carrying this title with pride. Nothing is possible if we put God first.”

Auala Vaivai Iopu agrees.

“We’ve been planning for this special occasion for more than a year and now that is finally over, I’m really excited.

“God is surely awesome for his everlasting love.”
