Christmas is about being grateful

Christmas time is a time to be thankful for what we have. It doesn’t matter if it’s little or a lot.

This is the belief of a father of four Iosua Pou, 56, of Sa’asaai Savai’i and Fasito’o-uta.

Mr. Pou said life is hard.

But he believes that being grateful for what blessings we have is the best way.

“There is no doubt about how hard life has been for us here in our country because of the expensive cost of living,” he said.

“The other hard part is that it is really hard to find jobs here in our country to support our families.

“So to me the only way to cope with the hardship we are facing day in and day out is to enjoy what you are doing and be happy.”

Mr. Pou works at his plantation. He has been trying to find another job so he can continue supporting his family.

He is also a carpenter but he only gets money when there are jobs.

“I have four children and only two of them are working at the moment supporting our family in terms of finance, while I support them with our plantation.

“So that is why I am looking for another job.

“It is not every day that I work. I will only get money when I go work, no work no pay day.”

Mr. Pou lost his wife in 2015 and he has been trying to raise their kids on his own with the support of his wife’s family.

Mr. Pou also mentioned that he enjoyed what he’s doing when it comes to supporting his family.

“I love what I do because this is my role to my family; I am here to serve and to provide for them.

“So even though life is hard but I don’t think about it as chores, I treat it as my exercise to gets my body active walking all the way here and back.”

Mr. Pou also added while festive season and New Year’s closing in lets enjoy it for what we have.

“Let’s enjoy the festive season for whatever we have, let’s be grateful of what we already have but let’s not ask for more.

“It is better to settle for less and knowing that we are happy rather than asking for more and at the end it won’t be pleasing.”
