Telecommunications company Digicel has completed its network upgrade and got 90 per cent of Samoa covered with 4G.

The transition of its mobile service users to 4G Plus connectivity is ongoing and customers who want to upgrade their service should visit an outlet, the company announced in a statement yesterday.

The network upgrade will translate to its customers experiencing world class downloading, streaming and browsing with faster speeds than ever before.

Digicel Samoa CEO, Farid Mohammed, said the company is committed to the Government’s vision of a connected Samoa and it has made that possible through its investment in its mobile telephony infrastructure.

“Digicel Samoa now provides world class 4G+ speeds to its customers and is leading the way with providing better value and innovative products.

D’Music was launched recently providing our customers with access to over 30 million songs and the ability to stream or download songs to listen to offline.

We are fully committed to the Government’s vision of a connected Samoa and we have invested considerably to bring the best service possible to market. We are also offering great value phones and data plans and 4G+ products to make the most of this upgraded network,” he said.

The project roll-out was done in anticipation of the Tui Samoa cable project, which was launched in March this year. Digicel was the first company to commit and sign a long-term deal with Samoa Submarine Cable Company, with customers now reaping the benefits of that agreement through the introduction of discount data plans.

But in order to experience 4G Plus services, Mr Mohammed said customers should have the right tools.

“As mentioned previously, two key components needed to experience 4G+, is a 4G SIM and a 4G capable phone or device. You need to have both to be able to experience Supa Seki speeds.”
