A father’s dream for his children

Lualua Leūmāna of Tuana’i is a man with a dream.

The father of five wants his children to grow up and enjoy a better life than what he and his wife are going through.

With this in mind, Lualua is a determined man. He will stop at nothing to get what his family needs.

The 43-year-old father sells his crops (bananas, taro) and fruits (papayas) for a living at the market to support his children’s education.

“My wife is a school teacher and my office is the plantation,” he said.

“I’ve been doing this for ten years and honestly we do have times that we can’t do much with the money we earn.

“That’s why I’m thankful to have relatives from overseas help out sometimes when we don’t have enough.

He added: “We all work for our kids, we all work to create a better life for our families and everybody in Samoa understands the nature of our people is lending a hand to another in times of need right?

“I work hard and I became someone with such a strong work ethic because I want my kids to pick up on this quality.

“I want them to grow up and tell themselves that they should work hard for the things they need just like how their father did for them.

“That’s what this life is all about; it’s all about hard work. Nothing comes easy anymore.

“I mean look at the cost of living; it’s unchangeable and that’s why we have to do the best we can with what we have.

“Personally I think it is a lesson for the youth and for the new generation; to learn from the struggles we have now; to create better futures. Whatever life we are experiencing right now; use that as a drive to work your way out of this life.”
