Two men accused of killing a 36-year-old father from Faleaniu and abandoning him on the roadside during the Easter Week are in custody.

This was confirmed by Police Spokesperson, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu.

According to Su’a the two are from the same village. They are 18 and 21 years old.

He also confirmed that alcohol was involved in the incident.

“The two were having a drink up with the deceased and the reports says that they had a dispute and the accused allegedly beat up the deceased and left him on the side of the road,” he said.

“He was taken to the hospital the next day but unfortunately he died.”

The two men will appear in Court on 8 May.

Last Tuesday the deceased wife told the Samoa Observer that the two accused were supposed to be her husband’s friends.

According to the wife, when they found Siona, his face was badly bruised and bashed.

“He was wounded and basically bashed to death on Thursday night,” she said.

She recalled seeing multiple wounds to his head.

“He was basically beaten and left on the roadside to die,” she said. “His injuries were sickening."

“I find it really hard to accept that there are people out there willing to do this to my husband...for no reason.”

Mary said the last time she saw her husband was when he left for work on Thursday morning.

“I never thought anything like this could happen,” she said.

“When he left for work, I thought it was just another day. He didn’t return home from work and I’m sad I never had the chance to say goodbye.”

During the press conference the media asked Su’a on most of the incidents that occurred whereby people whom ended up dead, if whether or not alcohol  was always involved?

“We notice that in the past few months and a lot of the deaths that are reported it’s all because of alcohol,” he told the media.

“We also notice that not only beer is involved but most especially vodkas. So the ministry is now looking into why this is happening whether it’s because there is too much alcohol inside vodkas or beers."

“There is also a committee who looks after liquors that we will be working with to look into this and if it is true that there is too much percentage of alcohol inside these drinks then maybe they can ask those companies who are making vodkas and beers to put down the percentage of alcohol."

“We are also advising members of the public to take it easy with the consuming alcohol.”
