You want something, be prepared to work

If you want it, work for it.

That’s the opinion of Leiataua Leiataua from the village of Toamua. He is 57 years old.

“The life out here is just great,” he said. “There are only three of us living in this house and our livelihoods depend a lot on our taro and cocoa plantation at the back.

“That means we can make money from it.

“My family don’t even rely on families overseas and here...or my children for money because we live on whatever I can get from the strength of my hands every day.

“We have enough because we plant a lot of crops in our plantation around the back, cabbages on the other side, pumpkins....and all the work that I do is to simply look after my family.

“We all know that the cost of living is getting a bit expensive but what else can we do?

“To me this is the only solution –forget about the high cost of living but continue to work on the land and provide for my family.

“It’s all about common sense.”

According to Leiataua, life is simple when you make the right decision.

“The right decision for us - is to take our family as our first priority and work hard.

“There is no point in complaining about not having other things...just keep on praying and hope for good days to come.

“No matter how poor my family, we dont have that much...I just pray to God about it and I think this is the best way that we can get it through life.

“Through prayers.

“Because He is always with us....just a little faith and God will work it out for the good of those who believe in Him.

When asked how the general living standards were like in the village he says it’s simply great.

“The land provides food and that’s how we live right now...so life is just great.

“As I’ve mentioned before, have faith, hope for the best and then everything will fall into place.
